Artist's Statement: Inspiration for forms comes mainly from primitive and classical ceramics. The surface decoration is about the colour of rust, sunset skies, landscape and the patina of age on weathered surfaces. Reconstructed archaeological pottery has a particular fascination as I love the contrasts and juxtaposition of the shards after years of separation. This has led me to purposely break bisque fired pots and fire the fragments in different parts of the saggar and reconstruct after the firing process. All the work is burnished before being fired in a container called a saggar together with wire, oxides and sawdust shavings.
