Artist's Statement: I have been working with black stoneware clay where the surface is unique to the touch and to the eye. This is accomplished by adding an additional layer of glaze. Nuka glaze (a rice hull ash base glaze) was splashed on the vase and fly ash deposited during the wood fired process, I used to finish this vase. This piece shows the efforts I go through to put back materials into the stoneware, to enhance the overall look to the piece.
