Bill Gordy Georgia Art Pottery Marked:
Impressed stamp, noting GA Art Pottery by W.J.G for William J. Gordy. Condition:
No chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs. Some natural and original crudity noted
in the stoneware clay at the lip and a couple minor places over the body. This
pot has a nice ringing resonance and shows minimal use. Please note what appears
to be natural ash forming in the upper half of the form---lovely. Dimensions:
6.125"h x 5"w Notes:
William "Bill" Gordy formed his first pottery studio in 1935. Typically,
Bill Gordy is known by many as a folk potter, but I would like to believe he was
a studio potter with great skills, where he made outstanding functional wares
for most of his life--a dedicated "man of the mud." This pot would fit
well into a Modern studio collection or a a swirled Niloak bungalow collection.
