Theodore
Cranz (1863-1943)
Marked:
Signed T. Cranz, as shown.
Condition:
The subject is in very nice condition with no visible damage. Some
inpainting detected with the use of a black light, which is not
detectable by the human eye. This canvas laid on board has not been
removed from its original Arts and Crafts framing, which has some
nicks and chips.
Dimensions:
Board area measures 6.875 inches by 10.875 inches, where as frame
measures 1.75 inches thick.
Notes:
Per Edan Hughes, Theodore Cranz was born in Bremen, Germany on September
23, 1863. He moved to California in 1898 and in 1918 settled in
Los Angeles. He died there on February 18, 1943. I offer this mountain
stream painting, which is in the manner of William Keith after his
period of painting in the Barbizon Style and sure to complement
a Stickley era bungalow. The colors and tones are stunning with
an almost misty fog starting to lift from the mountainside.
