Lester
Theodore Hull
Marked:
Signed L.T. Hull within image and titled Sand Dunes on the
reverse as well as an estate/provenance label is shown below.
Condition:
The subject is in pleasing condition. There is soiling noted over
the surfaces. A blacklight further reveals some soiling undetectable
by the eye and possibly one very small spot of inpainting. 98-99
percent of the surfaces are original pigments. The original frame
has the typical nicks and chips. I have not removed the subject
from the framing.
Dimensions:
The board measures approximately 12 inches by 16 inches. The frame
has a thickness of approximately 2 inches.
Notes:
Vasefinder is offering this finely executed impressionistic landscape
painting by Lester Theodore Hull. Lester Hull was born in Chicago.
He studied with Walter Sargent, Lorado Taft and David Ericson. He
worked as painter, sculptor, etcher and blockprinter. He taught
for many years in Kansas at the Washburn College(now University),
Topeka, Kansas, where he accepted a position in 1929. He married
Mary Huntoon while he taught at Washburn, who apparently was a student
of his, based on the estate note found on the the reverse of the
painting. This painting has a wonderful atmospheric feel with the
use of very pretty pastel tones.
