Reva
Jackman (1892-1966)
Marked:
Signed Reva Jackman on the front with Harbor Concarneau on
the reverse, as well as inkstamp that shows a company name of maybe
the discarded portion of wood box used to paint the subject.
Condition:
The subject is in pleasing condition. There is a paint loss on the
side of the boat at the middle bottom area of the subject near the
frame. There are minimal areas of light wear to the paint over the
rest of the surfaces, which also could be just lightly painted/missed
areas rendered by the artist. Light paint wear along the very edge
of the painting from the frame. The original frame is heavily distressed,
and I will leave its replacement to the new owner. All of the pigments
are original to the piece from the use of a blacklight. All in all,
this painting is in very nice original condition.
Dimensions:
The wood board measures approximately 8.5 inches by 10.5 inches.
The frame measures 12 by 14 inches.
Notes:
Vasefinder is offering this finely executed impressionistic harbor
scene with passionate use of colors and layering of ships, waters
and buildings in the far distance. This is a stunner of a piece
and museum quality. Reva Jackman was born in Wichita, Kansas. She
studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and in France, where she
was a student of Andre Lhote. She had ties to the WPA, where she
was involved in very important projects for the U.S. Government.
She lived in Kansas, France, California and Illinois to mention
a few locations. Don't miss this rare opportunity!!!
