Creston Ely

Marked: Signed Ely C. on front and reverse gallery label and title of Zinnias by Creston Ely, 1970.

Condition: The subject is in very nice condition with no visible damage. Wear, chips and nicks to the frame. I have not removed the painting from the frame.

Dimensions: The sight measurements of the board are 3.5 by 2.334 inches, where as the frame's exterior measurements are approximately 7.334 by 6.334 inches.

Notes: Creston Ely is a local Reno artist who attended Reno High School and would exhibit at several important local Reno exhibitions, where his work was included in an exhibition of the Young Latimer's Club. He won several awards for his watercolors and mixed media subjects and later went on to become an important commercial artist. Creston is well in Painters of Nevada, 1845-1980, by Robert McFadden. I offer here a gouache on paper board. This modernist still-life is titled Zinnias and is executed with great skills.
