"Art Imitates Nature"
Over twenty years ago, my professor of an art appreciation class wrote "art imitates nature" on the blackboard. This statement has always resonated with me.
I grew up on the shores of the east coast of Canada. My youth was filled with days of walking along the ocean on rugged and sandy beaches. The sea was sometimes tranquil, sometimes raging, but always moving and flowing.
Now, I live in Colorado. I am moved by the beauty of rugged rocks and soaring mountains. All these elements are reflected in my work.
All of my pieces are handbuilt, textured, and incised using high quality paper clay. Numerous refined instruments are used to create the variety of details in my work. The finale is a sponging removal technique on a heavy glaze application that reveals wonderful contrasts in surface texture. Pieces are then fired to cone 6.
