John James (Jack) O'Leary (1918-1982)

Meriden, New Hampshire

Marked: Mark of the artist.

Dimensions: Height 13 inches with maximum width of 6 inches, stoneware.

Notes: Jack O'Leary received a degree in Chemical Engineering before attending the school of American Crafts (Alfred University) from 1946-1948. From 1949-1954, he served as resident potter of the Old Sturbridge Village, Sturbridge, Massachusetts. From 1954-1960, he operated a private studio in Keene, New Hampshire, before opening the famous Tariki Studio in 1961. He taught at a myriad of locations. While teaching at Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire, he befriended Mr. Yu Fujiwara, who was to later fire wares at the Tariki Studio. Some of these wares were decorated with wood ash glazes designed by Jack O'Leary.
