Artist's Statement: This is a collaboration piece in the series of work I am making with Shiho. I throw and fire and Shiho does the design and decorating. The crane is a symbol of the New Year. The crane with the sun represents the hopes and wishes that come with the first sunrise of the New Year. The crane is also a symbol of longevity, good fortune, and fidelity. We enjoy the collaboration process. The Raku firing works well with the illustration.
